European Breakdown Cover
Get help when driving abroad
We provide 24-hour English-speaking assistance if you break down abroad. Our cover includes:
- vehicle recovery to the UK, up to the market value of the vehicle
- emergency roadside assistance and repair
- emergency alternative transport, and accommodation
About European Breakdown
Breaking down abroad without cover can be expensive; recovery back to the UK alone could cost you around £1,000.† But with AA European Breakdown Cover, you can contact us to arrange help 24 hours a day. So you can relax. After all, that's what holidays are for.
European breakdown cover main benefits*
With 24-hour English-speaking telephone assistance, we can arrange and help towards the cost of:
- roadside breakdown assistance
- emergency roadside repairs or tow to nearest repairer
- up to £2,000 cover per trip excluding unaccompanied vehicle recovery and legal expenses
- alternative transport (inc. public transport) costs to allow you to continue your journey or get home
- emergency accommodation if you have to wait for repair work to be completed
- vehicle recovery to the UK if it can't be repaired abroad, up to the current market value of the vehicle
- location of right-hand drive parts (cost of parts excluded)
- legal protection – up to £75,000 for representation on vehicle accident claims or motoring offences (excludes fines)
There are also no excess charges for our European Breakdown Cover.
Types of cover**
- Single Trip Cover
This covers your vehicle for the duration of your trip, up to a maximum of 365 days.
- Single Trip Group Cover
This policy covers large parties of between 9 and 15 people including the driver and infants. An additional supplement will be charged if you are towing a trailer or a caravan.
- Annual Multi-trip Cover
This covers a person in any eligible vehicle. It provides 12 months' multi-trip cover. Each individual trip within the year cannot exceed 90 days.
- Annual Long Stay Cover
This covers a person in any vehicle. It provides 12 months' multi-trip cover, but the individual trip length is extended from 90 days to 350 days.
AA European Breakdown cover includes:
United Kingdom*, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Republic of Ireland, all islands of the Mediterranean and the following countries of mainland Europe: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Northern Cyprus, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey in Europe plus Uskudar, Ukraine.
Cover does not apply to territories beyond mainland Europe.
* United Kingdom, except as detailed in the next paragraph cover starts from when you leave your home address in the UK. This means your policy will cover you to and from the seaport or Eurotunnel terminal from and to your home.
Travel from Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland – cover for travel commencing from home in Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland begins when you reach the Republic of Ireland. There is no cover for travel within Northern Ireland.
Trips within the British Isles are restricted to journeys where you take a vehicle overseas by waterborne craft and not for crossing estuaries and non-tidal waterways.
Cover within your home country applies only to a direct journey to and from the seaport or Eurotunnel terminal.
We reserve the right to amend the geographical limits of cover in the event of war, civil disturbance, riot or radioactive contamination.
